It Takes A Village

On November 28th 2016 at 12:15 PM, my husband and I welcomed our first child, our son, Colm Francis Egan into our lives. I was a lucky one, throughout my pregnancy I never experienced much morning sickness or other typical woes of pregnancy – life continued as usual aside from the growing belly and a healthy appetite.

I was also very lucky in the support of my employer and work colleagues. The entire Wallace OKC office was excited by the news of my pregnancy and happy for the life change my husband and I were about to experience. I was initially nervous about sharing the news; who wants to hear an employee is about to take leave for an extended amount of time? But I was quickly reassured, the response from my superior was congratulations and “take the full 12 weeks, you only have this chance once to raise your children, we will work with you.” It was reassuring and heartwarming to know I had the support of my principals and co-workers.

As my pregnancy continued everyone in the office made an effort to keep my stress level to a minimum and workload manageable. By the time I really looked (and felt) pregnant and site visits were out of the question everyone happily stepped up to take on the additional tasks with no questions asked or grumbling side comments. I am thankful for the experience of pregnancy and childbirth and grateful for all of the help I received from my friends and colleagues throughout the journey. Thank you Wallace OKC for all of your kindness, compassion, and patience! I feel extremely lucky to have such a supportive work environment.

I’m pretty sure that I made some grumbling side comments!!! But at least they were aloud where you could hear them!!
