Facilities Assessment

Wallace Design Collective has extensive experience with a wide array of structural investigations. Our experience includes condition and assessment surveys of existing structures; forensic investigations of failed or failing structures; peer reviews; and evaluations of existing structures with regard to additions and expansions. Wallace has been involved in many large-scale national and regional investigation programs that reviewed existing structures with potential deficiencies and, when such deficiencies were identified, made repair recommendations and designed the necessary remediations. Many of these programs involved facilities that were in-use, which required a sensitive approach that allowed the facilities to remain open while repairs were made discretely and efficiently. In addition, Wallace has the capability to conduct a variety of in-field tests and surveys, including infrared surveying of masonry walls.

Our staff of 200+ employees includes engineers licensed in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. We have designed projects in every state, giving us in-depth knowledge of all model building codes, as well as experience with local codes and jurisdictions.

retaining wall failure
• Assessment and repair design for cast-in-place, post- tensioned concrete and masonry retaining walls
• Investigate damage resulting from moisture, inadequate bearing, excessive soil pressure, or inadequate design or construction

Wallace Design Collective provides investigation and repair for concrete, steel, masonry, wood and light gage structural systems. We provide services to analyze existing damage as well as design to strengthen existing systems.

concrete
• Assessment and repair design for concrete structures with cracks resulting from settlement, heaving, shrinkage and thermal expansion
• Non-destructive testing to locate concrete reinforcing • Assessment and repair design for cast-in-place and precast concrete parking decks
• Assessment and repair design for structural sidewalks and retaining walls used to facilitate below-grade store fronts, common in historical districts

steel
• Assessment and repair design for steel structures, including composite systems and open web steel joists and joist girders
• Serviceability assessment and repair design
• Flexible repair options to permit uninterrupted facility operations
• Evaluation of dock leveling equipment and related building components

masonry
• Assessment and repair design for masonry (CMU) structures with cracks resulting from settlement, heaving, shrinkage and thermal expansion
• Non-destructive testing to locate masonry reinforcing
• Assessment and repair of improperly or insufficiently reinforced CMU walls
• Assessment and repair design for masonry structures with damage from prolonged exposure to moisture

wood
• Assessment and repair design for wood structures
• Analysis of past and present building code requirements for vintage wood structures with deficiencies due to age and design

infrared analysis
• Helped pioneer the use of non-destructive infrared surveys of masonry construction defects
• Infrared analysis to verify grout placement in reinforced masonry walls and to identify locations of moisture infiltration
• Infrared analysis of moisture infiltration in roofing systems
